The clamps are now tight, and all the dash lights come on, headlights, indicators work, radio works, clocks work, but the starter doesn't engage. Turning the engine on and off does not correct the problem however if you press the CD button on the radio to change it from auxilary mode the warning lights go out and all gauges go back to normal. You can also recreate this problem by just pressing the auxilary button on the radio.
Just done a quick multimeter test on the battery whilst at work (car has been stood for a good 7hrs or so since this morning: Car not running no load = 12.48v Car running no load = 14.22v Car not running, headlights on, front and read fog lights on, both heated seats on = the voltage drops below 12v pretty rapidly.

I was thinking of using fuse no. 23, a 10Amp micro fuse, which is labelled as the ‘delayed accessory power’. Not had a chance yet to put the multimeter on it.
